Crop-Suitability Analysis Using the Analytic Hierarchy Process and Geospatial Techniques for Cereal Production in North India

Identification of cropland suitability is obligatory to adapting the increased food needs driven by population expansion, environmental contamination, and climate change. Given this, present study was conducted assess cereal crops’ in India’s Haryana state integrating Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) geographic information system (GIS) technique. Multiple factors were considered for this study, such as rainfall, temperature, soil texture, drainage density, pH, organic carbon, electrical conductivity, slope. The AHP technique utilized decide weights each individual parameter using experts’ opinions. crop-suitability model developed builder module ArcGIS 10.8, input reclassified per optimum crop-growth requirement overlaid utilizing reclassify tool weighted overlay analysis. crop classes estimated highly suitable, S1 (6%); moderately S2 (71%); marginally S3 (23%) calculated arable land wheat crop. Similarly, class rice (28%); (72%), sorghum (1%), maize (85%); (15%) pearl millet (60%); (40%) also estimated. has observed that, physico-chemical characteristics climate, area fertile. Therefore, agricultural production can be improved cultivating suitable zones. Diversification regions crops other than that which it not taken up, will ensure income security marginal farmers.
